    Live Music Spring Weekend

    Live Music Spring Weekend

Live Music Spring Weekend at Nest 22-23 September: Cookie Baker Live on Stage Saturday night + King River Rising 6 piece groove band Sunday afternoon

Saturday Night 7pm on the Nest stage

Contemporary folk singer/songwriter COOKIE BAKER comes to Nest at her most personal, personable and intimate best, previewing material from her upcoming album.

Tickets $30 include Dessert Supper at intermission

    Buy tickets here

Cookie Baker is a pint-sized melodic force to be reckoned with.   A walking, talking exercise in compact contradiction and adaptation. As gutsy in person as she is empathetic on stage, as careful with her picked guitar as she is unapologetic with her incisive words, as warm in her interactions as she is unafraid of bringing airtime to the hard stuff.

More often than not penning songs of keenly observed lost love and found habits, Cookie speaks honestly of longing, loss, displacement and isolation, and the emotional debris resulting from these experiences.

Raised on a farm by the seaside in rural South Australia, the deceivingly gentle melodies, cool wordsmithery, and sparkling grit of her vocals that audiences have come to adore have taken Cookie performing around Australia and brought her to share stages with many esteemed Australian artists, including Augie March, Kate Miller-Heidke, Ben Lee, Angie Hart (Frente!), Mick Thomas (Weddings, Parties, Anything), Little Birdy, and The Audreys.
Her ongoing collaboration with Sydney-based engineer and producer, Michael Carpenter, produced the cracking first single, Little Engine, paved the way for second single, The Summer (featuring Tim Rogers of Australia’s beloved You Am I), and the sweeping third single, Don’t Start A Fight. Don't Start A Fight is a charity single dedicated to Cookie’s best friend and musical right-hand man, Jaan Kiploks, a Cystic Fibrosis sufferer. All proceeds from the digital-only single will be donated to Cystic Fibrosis SA and other CF-related charities.

Cookie Baker is also a vocalist with festival favourite Sun Records tribute, ‘Sun Rising – The Songs That Made Memphis’, and is the founder and director of Melbourne-based contemporary choir collective, ‘If You See Her, Say Hello
Playing only one show in the region and coming highly recommended by her friend Fanny Lumsden, don't miss this concert at your very own Nest, Tumbarumba.

    Sunday Groove Session

Melbourne 6 piece Reggae Groove Band KING RIVER RISING will be performing on the Nest outdoor stage aka the Deck on Sunday 23 September from 2pm

    Tickets $30 include roving pizzas

BUY Earlybird Tickets here or take your chance at the door

King River Rising are an 5 - 8 piece groove group that push the boundaries of Reggae Rock while paying homage to the genre’s predecessors.
With an eclectic fusion of Reggae that effortlessly mixes with their Rock roots, Melbourne based King River Rising blends deep groove with alluring harmony.

Often compared to artists such as Sublime, John Mayer and Groundation, King River Rising draw from many of the player’s deep roots in Blues and Rock; while putting their own spin on front man Ward Hancock’s love of Rocksteady and Dub.

After gigging their latest release titled “Lucid” relentlessly for the past seven months, 2017 has seen them cruise down to the Mornington Peninsula supporting Queensland’s top Reggae acts, play hot gigs and drinking cold beers at upper-class wineries in country Victoria and take tireless trips to Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

Listen here for an intro to their gig

With an arsenal of enthralling originals and tastefully enticing covers, King River Rising will be playing Tumut River Brewery the Friday Night and at Nest Sunday afternoon.

Book tickets to both Cookie Baker & King River Rising gigs at Nest and we'll shout you a drink on Sunday.

FILM:  Just To Be Sure (ÔTEZ-MOI D'UN DOUTE)

OFFICIAL SELECTION – 2017 CANNES INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL – DIRECTORS’ FORTNIGHT
OPENING NIGHT GALA – 2017 ODESSA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
The breakout French hit of the 2017 Cannes International Film Festival, where it premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight to multiple, raucous standing ovations, writer/director Carine Tardieu’s charming romantic comedy JUST TO BE SURE is a winning tale of parenthood, love and family, both lost and found.

“Rich in comedy and human emotion. This one is for the grown-ups. A movie about the extraordinary lives of ordinary people. Tardieu builds her story with infinite but invisible care.”
Paul Byrnes, THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

“A thoroughly enjoyable experience for holiday viewing. Filled with amusing details and throwing up serious questions along the way, the principle one being the role of the father. De France, as always, lights up the screen whenever she appears.”
    David Stratton, THE AUSTRALIAN

“The comedy favourite of Cannes. Invigorating and intelligent.”
    Pierre Vavasseur, LE PARISIEN

    Ophelia Daguin, ELLE MAGAZINE

Erwan, an unshakeable mine-clearing expert, suddenly loses his footing when he learns that his father is not his father. Despite all the tenderness he feels for the man who raised him, Erwan discreetly sets out to learn more about and to find his father. He turns out to be an elderly and very endearing man named Joseph, who Erwan becomes fond of. As good things come in pairs, Erwan crosses paths with the elusive Anna, who he undertakes to seduce. But one day when he pays Joseph a visit, Erwan realizes that Anna is in fact his half-sister. This bomb is even harder to defuse because his adoptive father now suspects that Erwan is hiding something from him.
