Global Book Launch Event at Nest

Global Book Launch Event at Nest

Book Launch Event with Internationally acclaimed, award winning author Sulari Gentill in Tumbarumba, ahead of capital city launches

Crossing the Lines between truth and fiction, Sulari Gentill’s new commercial literary fiction explores what happens when the imagined becomes better than reality.    This elegant and captivating postmodern tale demonstrates a stunning departure from Gentill’s best-known Rowland Sinclair Mysteries.

Nest will be hosting the first launch event of Crossing the Lines with Sulari, ahead of the 1 August international release date.

You are invited to be part of this exciting event at Nest Cinema Cafe Books on Saturday 29 July at 3pm

Cost $10 includes welcome drink and grazing platters to enjoy as you hear from Sulari about her new literary feat with a Q&A and of course the opportunity to buy signed copies, before the rest of the world!

Tickets purchased by 21 July go into draw to win a signed copy of Crossing the Lines.

Call Nest on 69482950 for bookings.

“A tour de force! Crossing the Lines is a brilliant blend of mystery, gut-wrenching psychological suspense
and literary storytelling. The novel stands as a shining (and refreshing) example of meta fiction at its best – witty and wry, stylish and a joy to read.
” – Jeffery Deaver No 1, International Bestselling Author

Madeleine d’Leon is fixated on the story of Edward ‘Ned’ McGinnity, the hero in her latest crime novel. But Ned too is a writer, and the character he can’t get out of his head is none other than Madeleine herself.

In this deeply intimate portrayal of two minds wrestling and embracing, it becomes increasingly difficult to define where imagination ends and reality begins.

“As one for whom certain story lines and characters have become as real as life itself, Crossing the Lines was a pure delight, a swift yet psychologically complex read, cleverly conceived and brilliantly executed.”
Dean Koontz, New York Times bestselling author

“Sulari’s wonderful way with words will continue to surprise and delight,” says Pantera Press CEO and
co-founder, Alison Green. “Stepping away from her Rowland Sinclair series and the 1930s, Sulari transports us to the present day in her stand-alone commercial literary feat, Crossing the Lines. This novel will leave you spinning, as the lines blur between reality and fiction with an unforeseeable shock ending.”

This elegant exploration of the creative process is “very different to Sulari’s previous works, but it is still
abundant with the Sulari-isms we all know and love,” notes Green.

Crossing the Lines sees Sulari flex all of her literary muscles to seamlessly weave together stories of murder, love and obsession in a way that not only asks ‘who done it?’, but also what is real and who is imagined.

Award-wining author Sulari Gentill set out to study
astrophysics, graduated in law, and then abandoned
her legal career to write books instead of contracts.
Born in Sri Lanka, Sulari learned to speak English in
Zambia, grew up in Brisbane and now lives in the
foothills of the Snowy Mountains of NSW where, with
her historian husband, she grows French black truffles,
cares for a variety of animals and raises two wild
colonial boys. Sulari also paints, but only well enough
to know she should write, preferably in her pyjamas.
Sulari is the author of the award-winning and
best-selling Rowland Sinclair Mysteries as well as the
Greek mythology adventure series, The Hero Trilogy.
“Sulari Gentill is an unusually vivid and witty writer.”

The Feature Film in our Boutique Armchair Cinema 24 Feb - 2 March: A UNITED KINGDOM

Based on the inspirational true-life romance between Botswanan King Seretse Khama (David Oyelowo) and his British wife, Ruth Williams Khama (Rosamund Pike), A United Kingdom is a British period piece set in the 1940s, following an interracial union in the face of fierce opposition from their families and the British government, the tribal elders of Botswana and the apartheid government of South Africa.

The film concentrates on the couple’s journey as they move to Bechuanaland (modern-day Botswana) and face similar obstacles of racism while Seretse tries to convince his people and the British government that he should be king and that his marriage to a white woman is a separate matter of personal choice.

Amma Asante, who also directed Belle, beautifully captures this defiant and enduring love story while shining a light on a complex and painful chapter in British history. Khamas’ son, Ian Khama, is currently the democratically elected president of Botswana and the family cooperated in the making of this film.

    DIRECTOR: Amma Asante
CAST: Rosamund Pike, David Oyelowo, Tom Felton, Laura Carmichael

After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

Tom, who keeps meticulous records and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel insists the baby is a “gift from God,” and against Tom’s judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them.

The Escalators play live at Nest 15 October

The Escalators play live at Nest 15 October
South Coast groovemeisters The Escalators are on a musical mission with a simple mantra: Come Together.

We're stoked they've selected Nest as the perfect venue for doing just that on Saturday October 15

“This tour is all about connection,” says guitarist Lachlan Mackenzie. “We carefully selected venues whose philosophy we respect, because they enrich their communities through art & culture.”

“Places like Nest are the future of live music,” says Lachlan. “We are returning to an old-fashioned idea of great music in community spaces. We see the spark when people reconnect with the magic of live music as an intimate, shared experience. And that elevates our performance to new heights.”

With more grooves than a record store, The Escalators tip their fedoras to the sophistication of Swing, the funk of New Orleans, & the rhythmic pulse of Jamaica. The Escalators cross-pollinate great jazz standards with groove-driven genres, and graft original compositions onto their swing, soul & reggae roots.

The Escalators have two studio releases ‘Felix’ (2014) & ‘From The Hip’ (2016) which you can stream right from their website. The success of these 2 CDs has inspired extensive East Coast travels, earned prestigious invitations to Noosa Jazz & Manly Jazz Festivals, & a #1 song on Triple J Unearthed!

After hundreds of shows together, The Escalators can hold listeners spell-bound in a ‘hear-a-pin-drop’ concert, or have the floorboards of a School of Arts Hall heaving under the weight of unhinged dancing.

The gorgeous tone of Jenny Blunden's voice will embrace you & steal your heart. Lachlan Mackenzie’s guitar weaves with pick-pocket grace through a rhythmic framework rich in interplay between Bradley Parson's upright bass & the drum kit captained by Hayden Moore.

Tickets to this intimate show are strictly limited so music fans will need to book early at Sticky Tickets

Book in for Pre -show Dinner from 5:30pm 69482950 or arrive for a 7.30pm start, with dessert canapés at intermission.  Tickets to this one of a kind event are only $29 and include canapes.

“The performance space at Nest is perfect for artist & audience,” says singer Jenny Blunden. “Sharing music with people who have come together, heart & mind, in a space curated with love. That is a magical recipe!”

“On this tour we are consciously supporting the venues that we want to see more of, and we can’t wait to meet the music lovers of Tumbarumba & beyond.

In Sickness In Health... And In Jail - Meet the Author at Nest

In Sickness In Health... And In Jail - Meet the Author at Nest

What happened when my husband unexpectedly went to prison for two years.   Read the book and meet the author Mel Jacob at Nest Saturday 8 October.

'So why did you marry Dad?’ my daughter asked. 'Well, over time I got to know him and he made me laugh, and . . . and I knew deep down that, that . . . even though we were really different . . . he was a good person.' Without skipping a beat, she said, 'He’s not that good, he’s in jail!'

After fourteen years of marriage, Mel Jacob's life looked as perfect as the roses perched above her white picket fence. The nice house in the suburbs, two great kids, a good husband. Until . . .Her life took an unexpected detour when her seemingly saintly husband was jailed for two years. In Sickness, in Health . . . and in Jail  follows Mel's funny, moving and insightful journey as she navigates single parenthood, prison visitations and nosy neighbours.

Mel's revealing account is the story of the family left behind. It chronicles the grief, the stigma and the conversational minefields of her husband's whereabouts, as well as the logistical problems of making a baby sibling for her two children, and why it's not appropriate to tell people that Daddy's in jail.

In Sickness, in Health . . . and in Jail is a funny and touching account of grief and love and forgiveness.

Tumbarumba is part of this true story. We got to know Mel and her children a little as they visited Nest over the period her husband served time at Mannus Correctional Centre and we are delighted to see their family reunited and welcome her back for this exciting event.

Mel will be doing a reading, be available for questions and signing books at 3pm Saturday 8 October at Nest.  All are welcome.

In Sickness, In Health... and in Jail is now available at Nest for $30 a copy.
